Before we get into the details of this document, we would like to share with you some of the terms and definitions used below, so that everyone understands what is meant when we say:
- Services : The interactions, user-to-user and company-to-user, that occur during the use of the LifeTales App, within the LifeTales App interface. Simply put, it’s the software we offer to you when you use LifeTales.
- App : The installed LifeTales application on a mobile device or the web portal accessed through browsing on either a mobile device, tablet, or desktop.
We at LifeTales understand that you care about how your Personal Information is used and shared, especially since you took the time to find and read this page. We get that through using our Services, you’ll be sharing information with us, and we want to be upfront about how we handle it. We’ve written this in a way that you don’t need to be a lawyer to understand how we treat the information we deal with. Last but not least, we want you to know that we take your privacy seriously.
By using our Services, you agree
- To consent that we will collect, use, and share your information in the ways outlined below
- to provide, personalize, and improve our Services,
- to allow you to set up a user account and profile,
- to contact you and allow other users to contact you,
- to fulfill your requests for certain products and Services,
- to analyze how you use the Services, in order to improve the Services for users.
In certain cases, we may also share some Personal Information with third parties, as described below.
Information LifeTales Collects
Information that LifeTales collects falls into any of the following three categories:
- Information you provide to us
- Information collected automatically
- Aggregated information
More information about these categories is listed below.
Information You Provide to Us
This is the information that you as a user submit to us. We receive and store this information on our servers. This includes information such as
- information submitted in the registration process such as your name and email address, or
- information submitted through use of the App, such as photos, videos, audio, and text as part of your stories or comments on other users’ stories
Certain information may be required to register with us or to take advantage of some of our features, and is outlined in the App registration process.
Information Collected Automatically
Whenever you interact with our Services, we automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser or device, such as
- your IP address,
- device identification, including type of browser and hardware model,
- permissions to access contacts, camera and photos, microphone,
- cookie information,
- usage information, such as the page or feature you requested, and
- geolocation information from any geotagged photos that you upload
We may communicate with you either by email or through our App. For example, we may send you promotional offers on behalf of other businesses, or suggestions about your use of the Services. Also, we may receive a confirmation when you open an email from us. This confirmation helps us make our communications with you more interesting and improve our Services. If you do not want to receive email communications from us, please indicate your preference by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of the emails and change your notification settings in the App.
Aggregated Personal Information
Aggregated Personal Information is simply combining the information of many users to produce usage statistics. This information can not be used to personally identify any one individual.
We anonymize your Personal Information so that you are not individually identified, and provide that information to our partners. We may also provide aggregate usage information to our partners, who may use such information to understand how often and in what ways users use our Services, so that they, too, can provide you with an optimal online experience. However, we never disclose aggregate information to a partner in a manner that would identify you personally, as an individual.
How We Use Information
The overall use for the information we collect is to provide you with a continuously improving set of Services.
More specifically, this information helps to:
- facilitate communications between you and other LifeTales users,
- improve our product through analyzing trends in usage,
- improve the safety and security of LifeTales,
- communicate with you.
Security of your Personal Information
Your account is protected by a password for your privacy and security. If you access your account via a third party site or service, you may have additional or different sign-on protections via that third party site or service. You must prevent unauthorized access to your account and personal information by selecting and protecting your password and/or other sign-on mechanism appropriately.
We endeavor to protect the privacy of your account and other Personal Information we hold in our records. Please be aware, however, that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.
Sharing of your Personal Information
We neither rent nor sell your Personal Information in personally identifiable form to anyone. However, we may share your Personal Information with third parties as described in this section.
With Consent: We do not display any of your Personal Information to any other LifeTales users without your permission. You decide which stories you wish to share with other LifeTales users.
With Agents: We employ other companies and users to perform tasks on our behalf and need to share your information with them to provide products or Services to you. Unless we tell you differently, our agents do not have any right to use the Personal Information we share with them beyond what is necessary to assist us.
Public User Profiles and Submissions
Certain user profile information, including your name, location, and any text, audio, video or image content that such user has uploaded to the Services may be displayed to other users to facilitate user interaction within the Services or address your request for our Services. Please remember that any content you voluntarily disclose online to a public entity becomes publicly available, and can be collected and used by others. Your user name may also be displayed to other users if and when you send messages, upload stories, or post comments through the Services and other users can contact you through messages and comments.
Changes to Personal Information
Through your account settings, you may access, and, in some cases, edit or delete the following information you’ve provided to us:
- email address, and
- user profile information, including text, images, audio and video you have uploaded to the Services.
The information you can view, update, and delete may change as the Services change. If you have any questions about viewing or updating information we have on file about you, please contact us at email@example.com.
Choices You Have
You can always opt not to disclose information to us, but keep in mind some information may be needed to register with us or to take advantage of some of our special features.
You may be able to add, update, or delete information as explained above. When you update information, however, we may maintain a copy of the unrevised information in our records. You may request deletion of your account by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will delete your account at your request and we generally delete closed account information within 30 days of account closure. However, deletion of information associated with your account from servers and various redundant locations may take more time. Some information may remain in our records after your deletion of such information from your account. We may use any aggregated data derived from or incorporating your Personal Information after you update or delete it, but not in a manner that would identify you personally.
You are always in control of which LifeTales users you share your Personal Information and stories with. When you add another user to a story that you’ve shared, they only have access to that story, as well as other stories you have shared with them. They do not have full access to all of your stories if you share one story with them. In addition, you can, at any point, remove a user from a story you’ve shared with them. This will revoke their ability to see the information that you have chosen to share within that particular story. LifeTales is not responsible for media or information that has been recorded, kept, or used in any way by a user through screenshots or other third-party software. LifeTales can only stop sharing a story with a person in-App and we do not manage any information or media that has been copied from LifeTales into another application or third-party software.
If we (or our assets) are acquired, or if we go out of business, enter bankruptcy, or go through some other change of control, personal information could be one of the assets transferred to or acquired by a third party. However, you would first be alerted to this by email and/or through the App and website and given the option to delete your account.
Children Under the Age of 13
- placing a notice on the lifetales.com website,
- within the LifeTales mobile App,
- by sending you an email, and/or
- by some other means.
You can decide, through the App, which channel of communication you would prefer us to contact you through.
